Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine’s Day. I know the day is half over, but in an effort to move that pic of Joaquin Phoenix down the page, I found this nice article on the science behind kissing. It actually has a name: philematology.

Of course the author goes on to say that women prefer kissing compared to men and that usually, after the initial attraction, locking lips after usually ends the attraction. What? Really? Admittedly, the article offers up nothing that many of you haven’t already figured out. It’s just a good quick read.hearts

Do you know the history behind Valentine’s Day? No? Yes? Or you don’t care? Well, it’s good to know anyway. Valentine’s day didn’t always symbolize flowers, chocolate, gifts and romance. Wonder if the Teleflora company will feel the hit (financially) from their poorly executed Superbowl commercial.

Favorite Romantic (or ish) Films

To end this post, I’ll list some of my favorite romantic movies and feel free to list your own in the comments below. I doubt that it’ll surprise anyone. I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day (violin playing) but this day allows me to pimp some of my favorite movies. As for love songs, I love Chicago’s stuff and Heart for starters. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite romantic films after the jump:

A Walk in the Clouds
Bridget Jones Diary
Running on Empty
Dogfight
When Harry Met Sally
Sleepless in Seattle
Dance With Me
Sabrina (1954 version)
An Officer and a Gentleman
Urban Cowboy
An Affair to Remember (Cary Grant sa-woon)
Love Story (“Love means never having to say you’re sorry”)
The Remains of the Day (doesn’t have a HEA but good nonetheless)

Plus many more. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day.

I had to go look up RUNNING ON EMPTY and DOGFIGHT. Both are River Phoenix films. The mind boggles to realize RUNNING ON EMPTY was made in ’88 and DOGFIGHT in ’91. I was sort of startled and trying to picture River Phoenix 20 years older.

  2. Slumdog millionaire was a good love story – subtle as it was.

  3. A more recent love story yet it was sutle.
