Actor Joaquin Phoenix Bizzare Appearance on David Letterman

Apparently, Joaquin Phoenix, yes, the same actor I drooled over in the movie, Walk the Line, has drastically changed his appearance. He was recently seen on David Letterman (did you catch it?) and throughout the entire interview, he didn’t have much to say about himself or his new movie, Two Lovers. FAIL!

joaquin-phoenix-letterman-interviewJust in case you didn’t know (as I surely didn’t), Joaquin has decided to quit acting in favor of doing music- rap music. Pardon me, while I LMAO. Here is the link to the Huffington Post that has the entire interview. Have a good weekend.

Edited: Apparently this is a hoax or so is the thinking of many on the Internet. I managed to snag a pic from this website that also has the Ytube video as well.

Joaquin is on the front page of the calendar section of the LA Times with uncombed snarly hair and a big bushy beard. What’s up with that. My son called me today to for the sole purpose to tell me to watch the Letterman clip on YouTube because “Joaquin Phoenix has lost his mind or something.”

Bizarre doesn’t begin to cover it.

Oh yeah I saw part of that interview. Rather bizarre. Everyone’s thinking – must be a reason why he’s acting like this because he’s being videoed by Casey Affleck for some documentary. So maybe it’s some schtick.

I wonder if Letterman was told anything backstage, after the interview was over? Like him, many of us didn’t know whether to laugh or take him seriously. I am a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix and his late brother, River Phoenix. Have any of you seen the movie, Dogfight with River Phoenix? Very good movie and romantic. I will be rewatching it this weekend.

  4. Lori says:

On the plus side, all the weirdness did give Letterman a chance to get in a couple great lines. The comment he made to Joaquin that was something like, “It’s too made you weren’t able to be here this evening,” was classic.

Of course it’s only really funny if you assume that Joaquin is faking it. If he’s really that far off the rails then it’s just sad.

  5. Janicu says:

No, I’ve never heard of Dogfight, is it going to be on TV this weekend? I’ll tivo if so!

I’ll be a little sad if he wasn’t faking and really is either going nuts or taking something. Always a bit sad when you see people not taking care of themselves.

No. I bought the DVD years ago when I saw a copy in the 5.99 bin at Wal-Mart. It’s a very good movie, about a soldier who while on leave goes searching for the ugliest girl in town to bring to the “Dogfight” a party thrown by his military buds and with prize money going to the soldier with the ugliest date. He finds Lili Taylor’s character and brings her and realizes that he actually likes her. She’s able to get him to look beyond the surface and they share one night together before he is shipped off to war. Here is a link to it on Amazon here.

  7. Joe says:

i feel kind of sorry for Joaquin Phoenix because he does seem genuinely disoriented and Letterman gave him a hard time about it

  8. Kurt says:

They repeated the original show again on 2/26/09, and I’ve concluded that he is either addicted to a very serious drug, or trying to con the audience.
