Obama's Speeches Utilized As Language Learning Tool in Japan

searching-the-wwwBarack Obama’s speeches are selling like crazy in Japan. The book, titled, The Speeches of Barack Obama, has sold over 400,000 copies over there, exceeding the sales of any other foreign text. Why the surge in sales? Many are using his speeches to learn, what else, English.

“…dozens of students in an English-language class in Tokyo have been memorizing his 2004 Democratic Convention speech to improve their understanding and pronunciation.”

We already know what a great orator Barack Obama is in this country. He’s been compared to a few of our great presidents. Anyway, I had to chuckle over the last few sentences in this article:

“We don’t publish every single president’s speeches,” Asahi Press official Yuzo Yamamoto said. “Would you buy the text of former President George W. Bush’s speeches?”

That would be a resounding no.
