Lehane's Historic Epic, "The Given Day" Will Be Brought To the Big Screen

The Given Day by Dennis Lehane

Dennis Lehane’s highly anticipated book (at least by me), is a historical epic, titled, The Given Day, and guess what? The movie rights have already been sold and Spiderman director, Sam Raimi, is set to direct the film. Talk about fast work. The book isn’t due out in bookstores until September 23, 2008. It’s nice to see Lehane release a new book since his last one was released several years ago. However, I’d really, really like to read another Patrick/Angie book. I’ve been waiting, oh, what, since 1999?

I have a mad crush on Dennis Lehane. I mean – on his books. The man can write. If you’ve never heard of him, where have you been? And if you are interested in reading his books, may I suggest, A Drink Before the War, which is the first book that introduces Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro, both of whom are private detectives and the stories are all set in Boston. Then there is his stand-alone novels that Hollywood has been cashing in on and picking up awards left and right for: Mystic River and Shutter Island. I have yet to read Mystic River (will read it this year) but I loved Shutter Island. Excellent psychological unrelenting, mind-bending suspense with a neat twist at the end.
