Suze Orman’s financial advice book, Women and Money, got a plug from Oprah Show that resulted in 1.1 million downloads in English and 19,000 downloads in Spanish when the talk show host offered the ebook for free on her website for a limited time only last week. Naturally, publishers worry about trends like this in making ebooks available online for free for fear of print sales being harmed in the process. The article mentions the 9-1-1 Commission Report made available by the Federal government as an ebook for free download and the resultant “print” sales of the same book was a bestseller. As many readers and industry people have already surmised, there is a ebook market out there as well as those who enjoy the traditional novel. Free ebook downloads are great promotional tools and Oprah just proved as much. Thanks O. I regret that I missed this opportunity.
