Vytorin and Zetia have come under scrutiny since a controversial study was released recently citing the lack of performance of cholesterol drugs in reducing heart attack and stroke. Robert Jarvik, the inventor of the artificial heart, is being investigated by Congress for his alleged credentials as a medical doctor promoting the statin drug, Lipitor. The article state that Jarvick completed medical school but stopped short of doing a medical internship. Legally he cannot prescribe medication and is more of a scientist than a medical doctor. Jarvick says that his role with Pfizer is to promote education on heart disease but for anyone who has saw the commercials on TV for Lipitor, Jarvick’s image seems to portray him as a medical doctor and not as a scientist or researcher of medicine.
