Jesus Camp (A Doc)

Yesterday I saw this documentary called Jesus Camp. It was quite alarming and very enlightening. Evangelical Christian children are being  indoctrinated at an early age (7 to 9 years old and up). In some cases, probably a little younger than that. The film featured kids going to this Bible Camp in North Dakota. I was shocked at the “intensity” of these kids. Anyway, the documentary was trying to show that the lines between church and state is getting to be a bit blurred. I clearly don’t agree with indoctrinating children at this age when they will believe anything. Se la vie. This is not a political blog so I will stop here. Watch this film. You need to be informed. It’s a very thought-provoking piece with some balance in the mix with the radio host who is a moderate-conservative Christian. Of course it shows Ted Haggard before the “fall.” Also, on HBO there was another documentary equally as compelling and thought provoking, called “Friends of God: A Road Trip with Alexandra Pelosi.” She visited Lakewood Church that boasts 30,000 in attendence every weekend. Other interesting trips were to a drive-thru church and a Christian themed park.

Oh, honey, I’ve been to these. LOL. It’s very cult like. I know that at my church, every book, movie, tv show, etc. had to be pre approved by the pastor of our church. Every decision that was made about my life: when I should get my driver’s license, whether I should attend an event, etc. was discussed with the leaders of the church. Added to that is the peer pressure to be more full of praise, to be more prophetic, engage in more healing ceremonies and the like. It is really frightening.

Hey, you still reading the Monette? Gotta make it to half the book before quitting! No cheating.

Anyway, back to your comment, how frightening.

I’m taking a break. I need to gird my loins, so to speak, to read this one. The self degradation makes me a bit ill.
